Whats New

The Australian Social Monitor provides authoritative reports on economic and social issues targeted at decision makers in business and government:

• Authoritative analysis
• Definitive national and international data
• Clear, readable and brief
• Academic auspices

We have two types of publication packages:

• Standard publications: Web copies of standard journal publications -- just the manuscript with its graphs and tables.
• Analytic Reports: In addition to the manuscript, a full analytic report includes all the data and programming to allow the analysis to be replicated and extended. Specifically:
  • Raw source data (what you would get from a data archive);
  • Programming (in SPSS or whatever) to create all variables needed in the analysis from the raw data;
  • Transformed data: all the variables used in the analysis, in exactly the form they were used in;
  • Analysis specifications: exact specificaitons of all analyses (eg in SPSS), so they can easily be re-run or modified;
  • Complete results of the analyses -- the full output, not just the figures reported in the manuscript.

We hope that the 'analytic reports' will be useful to other researchers, both in fully documneting the original analysis, in making re-analysis easy, and in offering possibilities for other analyses using the same data and measurement. The analytic reports should also provide a convieient starting point for papers by students -- for example, by adding a variabale to the model, or doing the model separately for different sub-groups (men/women, old/young, well-educated/poorly educated), while re-using the basic data and programming.

Papers are in one of three formats:

• Conventional HTML: A copy of the paper publication in HTML, wiht few if any modifications to take advantage of the possiblities of the web. These are viewable in any browser.

• Microsoft Word 6/7: A copy of the paper publication in Microsoft Word version 6/7. Few if any modifications to take advantage of the possiblities of the web, but good formatting in MS Word. These are viewable only in MS Word (or the free MS Word viewer).

• Web-enhanced: A copy of the paper publication in HTML, enhanced to take advantage of hyperlinks, colour, and the like. These are viewable in any browser.
